Automobiles in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack left him without words and had to be addressed quickly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
